Excellent article. Two things I would add regarding ceramic coatings. Regardless of whether the coating is “professional” or DYI, extremely comprehensive (and expensive) professional grade detailing lighting systems are really required in order to ensure a flawless finish (along with lot of experience, knowledge and patience).
Both my track Exige S cars had Jet Hot header coatings (special coating for SC engine, not silver, black) and they saw lots of hours of high revs without any issues with the coating. Also did my Elan S1 and Europa TC headers with Quicksilver racing engines. Never had a problem with Jet Hot.
